Yoga to practise connection - How do I find yoga friends near me?

Is yoga a good place to meet people? YES.

If you’re a passionate yogi or just a beginner, having a friend to practise with and connect over can elevate your experience and form a genuine friendship. Yoga is often an inward practice about disconnecting from others and quieting the mind but there is such an important outward element of the practice that is often overlooked. Yoga is about connecting with yourself, the world around you and creating a greater sense of belonging with the people around you.

The impact of synchronised movement can increase feelings of connection and belonging with those around you. Even when you are totally focused on self and flowing through movements and poses you are subconsciously connecting with the people around you. Yoga is an incredibly present practice and being completely present makes amazing grounds to form genuine friendship connections. All this is to say, if you practise yoga (whatever your ability and experience), it can form the foundations of really amazing friendships.

In a world where people are lonelier than ever, it is so important to prioritise making friends and one of the easiest bridges to meeting new people is through your hobbies (like yoga). Yoga studios and classes tend to be very tranquil and peaceful and I appreciate it can seem daunting, and maybe even a bit disruptive, to bound in and start introducing yourself to your mat neighbours. In a world where we hurry into class and hurry back out it can make what should be a really easy place to socialise actually quite difficult. BUT there is a solution!!

Buddee is an app that was created to effortlessly find local people that share your passions.

Simply download the app (available on ios & android), add yoga as your hobby and connect with other local yogis. Chat first and meet at your own convenience. It's true that there really is an app for everything and Buddee aims to remove the friction of finding like-minded people. Meet through Buddee and connect over yoga.

Having a yoga buddy can really open up the vast world that yoga is. There is so much to learn about and explore and all yogis are really on an ever evolving journey. Take classes together or even practise at home or in a local park - having a yoga buddy I practise with regularly has made the experience so much more connective and fun!
